He enjoyed volunteering for the Springfield Commission on International Visitors and the Sister Cities Association of Springfield. A member of the Springfield Road Runners, Bud loved running and ran the Boston Marathon 3 times, completing a total of 26 marathons.īud spent time reading, working crossword puzzles, and entertaining guests from all over the world with his wife, Janet. He was a longtime member of the American Medical Association, the Sangamon County Medical Association, the Sangamo Club, and Island Bay Yacht Club. Over the years Bud enjoyed painting, model railroading, traveling (including all 50 United States and multiple countries abroad), sailing, scuba diving, playing the piano, singing in the Springfield Choral Society, and the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir (where he was a church member for 72 years). In 1962 he began to serve as a medical consultant for the Illinois Bureau of Disability Determination Services and continued until his death.

He often performed in Medical Madness, a medical charity fundraiser. Bud began private practice in Internal Medicine in Springfield in July of 1959, retiring from private practice in February of 2003. He was a true visionary, instrumental in introducing CPR to Springfield and the surrounding area. He graduated from Millikin University in 1953, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1958. Bud was an outstanding athlete, lettering in track, football, and basketball.
